As a woman why did u join the police force?
Well, I like to do exciting things like that. In the USA it is not an issue for women to be police officers so I did not ever think that I should not do this. When the opportunity came along it made perfect sense to me and sounded fun. I lived in a very small town in upstate New York and the police force was only about 15 people (3 of which were women). We did not have a very high crime community, but we received all the proper training anyway. Including shooting guns and crowd control and how to use pepper spray.
Why /when did ur country open police for females?

This website above (in English) has a very good history of women in the police force in New York. Women served in some capacity with police departments since the early 1830’s.
when they first opened police for females did ur society has a hard time accepting female police?
Of course. Women were only allowed to do certain jobs such as be “matrons” or cleaners. Women were given small duties involving dealing with other women prisoners or searching female corpses (dead bodies). But women were not allowed to work alongside the men. In the beginning of the time women fought to work alongside the men or have more duties – women were harassed and told that a woman’s place is at home not at work. But this was the same for women entering other careers as well and not just the police.

Do u think that every society needs female officers no matter what kind of society it is?
Yes. There is a need for women to serve their countries in all societies. Even in Iran where women and men are strictly segregated, there are female police officers. With the increasing problem of women being involved in crimes as well as having crimes committed against them – female police officers should be used to work in these situations.

Do u think that the police job is much harder For women than men?
In my opinion, NO. In the States, where women have been police officers for years, they take very difficult training. If they can’t pass the training then they don’t get to work. So the ones that pass the training are just as good as the men and are able to do the job just as easily.
Is there any situation u felt that if u were a male officer u could have done it right?
No. Exactly the opposite. Women are known to be better at staying calm during stress and are know to be better at handling difficult situations of crisis.
Does ur society accept female officers? or people look at them as if they were men ?
In the beginning it did not accept them well. Men would say that a woman's place is at home making babies not making arrests. But now the majority are well respected. There are still women who have families and children and work as police officers. So no, they are not looked at as if they are men or as if they are un-feminine women.
if a woman wants to join the police force does it mean that she give up her feminism?
Not at all. The fact that some women who become officers are very strong and sometimes work out does not mean that she might not enjoy wearing a dress and make-up or want to get married and have children.
Do men feels any diiference between female police officers and other females (i mean as his fiance or wife or girlfriend)?
I think you would find some men who might feel threatened by being married to a physically strong women. But for the most part, people attract their husbands based on mutual interests. Many men who are married to female police officers might in fact be police officers themselves or be working in a public service industry as well (fireman, Emergency Medical Technician).
Are there police jobs that women is better than men ?
Like I said before, studies have shown that women remain calm and are better during crisis situations such as hostage negotiations, or trying to prevent someone from committing suicide (killing themselves). Men and women do have very different brain structures and women also pay attention to details more so they make very good detectives.

What do u say to the egyptian who refuse the idea of the interior ministry should open police for females ?
I would say the times are changing and if the society does not change with them, then there will be new problems arising and old problems that will continue to get worse. Such as sexual harassment of women.
what do u say to the egyptian goverment?
I say that in order to move forward in the modern world eventually you must make this change in your society. Not just because the western world is doing it – but because it is important to the stability of Egypt, and the ability of Egypt to develop as a prosperous nation with good standing in the eyes of the world.

This was a very nice interview. Good Luck in letting women become police officers in Egypt. I am sure it will happen some day.
